When they met in their mid twenties, Sarah was an accounts manager and Jason a farmer.
Sarah, originally from Falmouth, grew up in Ponsanooth and was living in Carharrack when they met.
Jason has never lived further than a mile or so from West Trevarth Farm – in fact it is difficult to get him to leave the county!
Both have grown up with dogs and cats in the household. They currently have two dogs and three cats – one of which is Scruff, often seen on the shop counter.
Sarah became an SQP in 2017 enabling her to sell wormers and flea treatments.
Jack was first employed at Carharrack Animal Feeds at the tender age of 14 years old as a Saturday boy and by the time we bought the business in 2015 had progressed to Manager.
His family have always owned dogs and he now has a Springer Spaniel.
One of his hobbies is shooting clays and thanks to his knowledge of the sport, we now have a nice range of clay and game shotgun cartridges and air rifle pellets.
In early 2018 Jack qualified as an SQP, enabling him to sell wormers and flea treatments.
Emily had her first pony when she was 12 years old and has owned at least one at a time ever since. Her love of animals has meant that she has a wide knowledge of many different pets – in the past she has kept rabbits, fish, ferrets, chickens, and sheep. She currently has two horses, one shetland, two dogs and a cat.
Emily had been employed elsewhere for four years when we bought Carharrack Animal Feeds – so at first she worked for us part time on her days off. When the opportunity arose in 2018 for her to work here full time – she jumped at the chance!
In early 2019 she qualified as an SQP enabling her to sell wormers and flea treatment.
How We Started
In 1986 at the Old Coal Yard in Carharrack, Church Street Animal Feeds was born.
It has progressed over the years and changed ownership several times, as well as
a name change to Carharrack Animal Feeds.
In 2015 the business was bought by Jason & Sarah and was moved to West Trevarth Farm, Lanner – just a mile from the Old Coal Yard.
Since the move we have been able to offer a wider range of products and a much larger parking area.
We pride ourselves in stocking one of the widest ranges of animal feed and accessories in Cornwall, and every year this range seems to grow. In 2017 we became a stockist of Bateman gates/feeders and other galvanised products, began to stock shotgun cartridges and also we proudly passed exams and premises inspections which allowed us to sell animal wormers and flea treatments. In 2018 we grew our shop to include a new hardware isle, new electric fencing range aswell as a wide variety of wooden fencing stakes. All of these new additions to our business have been driven by listening to our customer’s needs and then fulfilling them!
All full time staff undergo regular training on the various feeds and supplements – to keep us up to date and to make sure we can be of help to our customers when they have a specific requirement.
